Our Work For Children

At SOS Children’s Villages a caring family is core and our aim is to provide a loving home for every child that is at risk of losing parental care and those without parental care. Our work focuses on the development of each child into a self-supporting and contributing member of society. We believe that a child’s development to his or her full potential is best realized in a supportive and protective family environment.

Each child is a unique personality and to provide each child with reliable and the most appropriate response to the situation, we work together with all relevant stakeholders. A careful assessment process into the specific situation hindering the development of the child is done. Based on the analysis the most appropriate programme interventions are developed and actions taken in the best interests of the child. We work in the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, our organisation pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children.

“The family, as the natural environment for the growth and well-being of children should be afforded the necessary protection and assistance so it can fully assume its responsibility within the community.”
