Kinship Care

This is another form of family strengthening programme where children and young people are provided with care through their relatives or next of kin. Similar interventions are administered as in family strengthening. We are yet to formalize this type of care, as we have just began the process with Government in the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office under the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) to develop National Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures on Kinship Care. This initiative began in 2016 when some children were admitted into this initiative, they were classified as Family Based Care 2.
